Okay, I tried sleeping but clearly all the energy drinks are not helping and I just rolled in bed for two hours. I posted the other entry from the new Tumblr iPhone app earlier and it looks like it got cut off. I made a video quickly summarizing the rest of what I meant to say, but it looks like it’s not going to upload since it’s been chugging away for the past hour. So I’m just going to quickly type type type here and get to work on my prints.
Summary of the things that went wrong: sis and I overslept, printer stopped working (needed to print out ID stuff), Office Max attendant was a newbie who was confused (if we weren’t in a rush, we wouldn’t have minded— but what usually would have been a fifteen minute errand turned into a forty-five minute errand), carpool was messy, traffictraffictraffic, forgot to buy my badge, got my badge ($75 ugh my wallet weeps), sis realized table was in a deserted empty area, finally set up but everyone else had already settled in hours ago at this point so we were flailing around awkwardly between two tables who were immaculately set up already, spilled milkshake multiple times.
On the table nearby that we think may hate us— my sister and I most likely look extremely clumsy and irresponsible for staggering into the hall around 1PM (an hour after opening, three-four hours after we were supposed to set up). Usually when everyone is setting up together, we’re all sorts of helpful and don’t mind bumping elbows because the space is small. Hauling PVC pipes around and spilling milkshake onto our table was noisy, distracting, and most likely driving convention-goers away from the general area. Spent a large part of the day feeling really uncomfortable. I hope that as the weekend goes on they realize that we’re not a bunch of disaster-ridden oafs who will bring the entire aisle down, haha. :,3 It was just a huge jumble of crazy things going on.
We’re trying to see if we can get our table moved, actually. We’re really far in the back near a lot of empty space, so our aisles are fairly empty and people hang out in the back. This is fine and all, except some people started playing kick ball and that made us nervous because, well, KICK BALL. One stray kick can result in the ball knocking everything over! Waaah! There’s a lot of people who are just chilling right behind us near where we keep merchandise too since it’s all empty space back there, and that makes us nervous because theft does happen. D: So hopefully we can move to a different spot. My sister and I have a really tall stand, so if the ball had hit one of our pipes a massive disaster would have erupted— such as the tower of pipes careening onto someone else’s table and destroying their merch along with our’s. It’s nerve-wracking! I was sweating whenever I’d hear the ball approaching. Accidents happen! D,:!!!
The con was fun and interesting though. A lot of really friendly and nice people. I enjoy seeing the reactions people have to my parody prints? Lots of laughter and smiles. Makes me feel glad that people find them funny too. My sister’s work is really popular! Also, the Star Driver print pleased people too. Yay, new print worked out. I really like painting for leisure, so I just kept painting ponies as displays even though we only needed one. I think I’m going to touch up the Derpy one tomorrow— the face is lumpy. I started a painting of Aoba right before the convention ended to get some practice in doing something that required more precision though.
Saw a few people, which was nice! Got lost for a while afterward and wanted fresh air, and eventually partied a bit with Mokona. It was really fun, met cool people. Played Magic VERY poorly with an awesome deck borrowed from a competitive player. I had to scoop because it was going nowhere. We also played Battleshots in teams— eighteen shots split between teams of three. So six shots each, and each shot was actually not a normal sized shot— more like… 1/6? So basically it’s just like one shot in the end, so you don’t die haha. We won, but we actually cheated on the last one because it was taking sooooo long to get their last ship that everyone was sobering up and getting bored. So someone from the other side of the room who could see the opponent’s ship arrangement texted one of our teammates some hints, haha.
Then afterward I saw a bunch of people I haven’t seen in forever and waited in line with them for a panel that was 18+ (I forgot what it was). Since I try to present myself as a person who is happy to answer questions within reason, one of the guys was like, “TELL ME ABOUT FEMALE ANATOMY AND SEXUAL REPRODUCTION” and I was like, “AWWW YEAH I’M ALL ABOUT SEX POSITIVENESS AND BIOLOGY LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THAT~” That was fun and silly. I’m very silly about touchy subjects because it’s easier for me to talk about it when nervous, actually! If I don’t know how someone will react to something, I’ll usually deliver the message in a very uhhh encourage-you-to-laugh-and-have-fun way???
One of my friends said something to the effect of, “You’re not bisexual unless you sleep with both men and women equally!” (I didn’t even say I was bi, actually— this came up when we were talking about how many people in the world were queer instead of what is accepted as straightness.) I sassed him a bit (he likes being sassed— actually, most of the people I hang around with enjoy being sassed so these kind of arguments and discussions come up often) about it.
“So if you haven’t had sex yet, what are you? Should you be keeping a list to make sure you’re not dipping too much into hetero and homo territory? How do you know if you’re straight then if you haven’t had sex?” He said, “Because I haven’t had sex with men.” “Yet you haven’t had sex with women. So, your argument…?” Then he laughed and threw up his arms and I laughed too. I enjoy that my friends do talk about stuff like this even if we don’t agree. It’s interesting to us.
My sister arrived to pick me up and gave me SUSHIIII WAAAAAH *_________* YES PHILLY ROLLS TASTED SO GOOD AFTER A LONG DAY I DON’T EVEN LIKE THEM USUALLY COMPARED TO SALMON SKILL ROLLS!!!! Then I laid my head down and tried to sleep and typed that shitty post on my phone that didn’t even post right asiodufaiosudioguasodifuaoisdu and then I couldn’t fall asleep shoot shoot shoot!
So here I am. I’m going to quickly finish a print as much as I can and then try to go back to sleep if I feel tired. Sigh sigh sigh.
Looking forward to the rest of the fun weekend. Dad is super sad that sis is moving out! Poor dad— his first baby bird leaves the nest. He’s taking us out for dinner, as a result, and I wonder if he’ll cry? Oh, dad. :( My sister is leaving earlier than she meant to because of work, sadly. She had meant to stay longer. My dad was solemn when he heard the news. I can’t imagine what will happen when I have to leave the nest someday too.
