So I made these fanmixes in early-mid 2007 and thought you guys might like them. Kon’s album cover was especially annoying to make because I had to erase a lot of stuff in it, and his track cover photo is a free-use stock photo from somewhere that I drew on a little bit. Years ago, so I can’t remember. Tim’s was a little hard to design. I tried to make all of their albums sound cohesive— like they fit together. So they have a lot of songs by the same artist or with similar things. Here are links to the LJ posts about them with some lyric excerpts. If I made fanmixes again, I would probably change up some of the songs. Maybe I’ll do an updated one sometime. :)
Bringing this back because… it took so much effort to make, haha. This was probably the most graphic design I ever did in my life.
So I jumped on that Slickdeals deal of $5 for a custom engraved iPhone case. This is my favorite shade of red, which partially explains why seeing Impulse when I was a young’un was “OMG INSTANT ATTRACTION 833333!!!” so I figured it’d be suiting to throw a Flash logo on it as a subtle mix of Bart elements. I could have left it simple and elegant with just that, but no I had to engrave something because it was possible just to see how it’d look. Thinking back on it, should have just left it as the Flash logo! Oh well.

I made these colorful lil’ guys for AX ‘09. However, I’ve realized that I’m not that into convention running because it’s pretty stressful, so I have been hoarding them at home ever since then. Luckily (???), I haven’t really improved in two years haha so these are basically as good as I’ll ever get as far as pin making goes. :,D Anyway, good luck and have fun! THANK YOU. Once upon a time, the three of them were equally good friends. However, once TT started, Bart was pretty much just pushed to the sideline.
It’s my one stupid hope for the reboot, tbh. Stupid because OMG! this is DC and they seem to suck at doing Bart well and having his friends treat him like, I don’t know, a friend. But I hope that the reboot treats Bart well. And tone down the World’s Finest 2.0 BS, it sets my teeth on edge.
I know this is an ancient confession now by Tumblr standards but bawww. :,< They balanced each other so well as a trio!
I realize that chicken Bart sketches are from a panel where they were showing preliminary designs for DCnU. However, Bart’s new costume has been pretty inconsistent. In some preview comics, it’s pretty drastically different from the solicitations. The close-up I just posted that makes him look pretty chicken-y does seem to match the promo pics released though. Still confused about his costume, height, personalty, and back story.

Vampyres + Zhombies by Girl_Starfish
OH SNAP I found it. I know compuhorse has seen it, but I want to pimp this fic series out to everyone and also tell a little story.
Okay, so the DC fandom around 2004-2005 was a very quiet but talented fandom. Even me, as a newly active fan around that time, could go through all the archives on titans_together, scans-daily and read all the fic I could find that I was interested in on dcficindex in one week. There wasn’t much going on, and I think it’s because people really worked super hard on what they were doing so they polished everything like crazy. It was back when scans-daily was ALL slash posts and every post was basically YJ, because YJ had just ended recently and people were still catching up on reading it.
In fact, there were only a handful of slash fanartists. I remember being called “the anime artist” because when I started dicking around in the DC fandom, the main artist was glockgirl and this other person who I forget the name of who would draw the boys in drag. She was awesome, but posted very rarely. My style was very weeaboo in comparison. (My style is still weeaboo.) That’s how small the pool was when it came to active DC fanartists. Glockgirl had basically quit by the time I started too, which is probably why when people like VV found me it looked like I was basically the only active DC fanartist of the time who did slash. There were plenty of fanartists, like people working on their portfolios on DeviantArt who would draw their favorite heroes in pin-ups or cover-styled work, but that’s not the kind of fanart I’m talking about. I’m talking about fanart drawn for the fandom community and culture. Also, there was very little crossover between the YJ fandom and the other DC fandoms. Justice League and other things functioned on their own entirely.
As a result of all this, I ended up having the opportunity to become very close to a lot of the writers. Sometimes because people needed someone to draw a little companion sketch for their fic and I was basically the only person around being active (which is how I ended up drawing two pictures for the Timfinity fan-collaboration project). Girl_starfish is one of the writers I got close to, and we had a lot of fun together. I always liked drawing scenes from fics I liked, and her writing style was so clean, productive, and fun that I drew a lot of stuff for her.
As mentioned in the previous post, Vampyres and Zhombies kind of started from how popular vampiricism was becoming in the community at the time. Girl_starfish was the only who took it and really ran with it though— longterm, resulting in a fic that took over a year to complete. She had stopped writing it at one point, and a long time later I drew fanart I really missed it. This sparked some interest in it again, and girl_starfish was so sweet for finishing it after seeing that people were still holding their breath for the ending. I don’t think something like this could have happened as easily though if this was a huge fandom where fics just get swallowed up in the swarm of posts submitted daily. The group of people active was maybe twenty people, and they were all responsive and extremely encouraging. We were all reading the same stuff.
If there’s a fic that any DC slash fan should read if they like OT3 or Kon/Bart with a dash of Tim/Kon, it’s this series. It’s not even that much Kon/Bart. Nothing even really HAPPENS slash-wise, it’s mostly implied and behind the scenes. That’s what makes it alluring though, because there’s a fun plot that is more important than just having slashy shenanigans! Though slashy shenanigans do happen. There’s tons of fun and suitable cameos that can make any nerd giddy while reading it too. Plenty of characters make their way into the fic somehow. The plot itself is fast and interesting. The characters are all very distinct and awesome. The entire thing has its own tag on weneedhelp, and I super encourage you to go all the way to the beginning and read it. It’s not as long as it looks— girl_starfish just likes to submit the pieces in small segments.
Read it read it read it read it if you’re a fan of YJ and Tim, Kon, and Bart. Kon is doofy TT Kon but written in a very good way that makes his doofiness very charming. Tim is like mid YJ Tim but with the sass of early Tim mixed in. Bart is just Bart.
Basically, the story is set in a fantasy Victorian London. Kon Kent is an American who studies the supernatural, and is on a scholarly trip in Europe to further his explorations. Beth and Tim are siblings who are from a society of skeptics that are on the same trip as Kon to debunk the supernatural claims of the place they’re visiting. Many things happen. Later, there is a sequel about zombies.
Have some drawings inspired/about the fic without any context. I’m trying to lure you into reading it.
