This is supposed to be the companion piece to Bart, but with Tim instead. However, I keep yawning while drawing this so I’m just going to finish it later. I didn’t realize that drawing someone yawning would make me yawn!

So I made these fanmixes in early-mid 2007 and thought you guys might like them. Kon’s album cover was especially annoying to make because I had to erase a lot of stuff in it, and his track cover photo is a free-use stock photo from somewhere that I drew on a little bit. Years ago, so I can’t remember. Tim’s was a little hard to design. I tried to make all of their albums sound cohesive— like they fit together. So they have a lot of songs by the same artist or with similar things. Here are links to the LJ posts about them with some lyric excerpts. If I made fanmixes again, I would probably change up some of the songs. Maybe I’ll do an updated one sometime. :)

30th Century Boy

Sort of Like Icarus

A Bird in a Cage

Bringing this back because… it took so much effort to make, haha. This was probably the most graphic design I ever did in my life.

“I wish DC would remember that Bart was best friends with Tim and Kon.”

THANK YOU. Once upon a time, the three of them were equally good friends. However, once TT started, Bart was pretty much just pushed to the sideline.

It’s my one stupid hope for the reboot, tbh. Stupid because OMG! this is DC and they seem to suck at doing Bart well and having his friends treat him like, I don’t know, a friend. But I hope that the reboot treats Bart well. And tone down the World’s Finest 2.0 BS, it sets my teeth on edge.

I know this is an ancient confession now by Tumblr standards but bawww. :,< They balanced each other so well as a trio!

“What I Saw When I Read For Tim/Kon in Different Comic Eras”

Long story short! YJ Tim/Kon had strong chemistry that I could get behind along with consistent characterizations that made sense— especially when they fought and Kon’s insecurities would go straight at Tim. They got along great when they did, but there was that underlying tension that would occasionally show itself due to Kon’s various complexes that Tim would try to be understanding about or brush off. Except sometimes he couldn’t, and there would be awesome, heartbreaking, funny confrontations. Current Tim/Conner is blah to me— especially because both characters suddenly became such different, boring people.

Well, with Tim his changes were somewhat more gradual than Kon. As many people in the Tumblr DC fandom have commented on, their developments do not appear to make much sense though. (I’ll source the entry when I can find it! This place moves fast!) As a recent post I happened upon mentioned, why is Tim now this ulta-suave, happy guy who thinks he’s the bee’s knees? And of course, many people agree that it is a huge tragedy that we lost sassy, romantic, sincerely-wants-people’s-approval-and-love Kon to what we have now.

Yay discussion fodder?

Disclaimer: I also realize that the dynamic that Tim and Kon have now is a dynamic that people love. I can see it too— they are truly now a couple that would do anything for each other and care more about each other than anything else in a world. They are the most intimate, high profile friendship in the DC Comics universe at this point now that Gar and Cy hasn’t been touched on in years, Boostle has been separated, Dick and Wally were practically shelved, and Bruce and Clark are too busy to be shown doing anything of worth with each other. DC could announce that Tim and Conner are going to get married in the last issue before the September reboot, and I would not be surprised at all. That absolutely they have the gooiest, fluffiest, nose-rubbiest, butt-touchiest relationship in current DC comics. Even if I can understand it, explain it, experience their moments over and over again through reading it, and can see that at the point it’s been developed it’s one of the most legitimate relationships in the DCU, it doesn’t mean that it has to be my OTP just for its sheer authenticity. I just don’t feel a spark or chemistry that I can get emotionally invested in. It’d be nice if I did because it’s hands down the most popular pairing for the YJ/TT reader fandom, but… I don’t feel anything. D,: Not unless it’s YJ-era them, at least.

rebogging forever because because you have all my opinions on these kids except better informed (i don’t pay attention to tim outside team books) and wayyyy more eloquent.

also if i may add… there’s a reason there’s been such an upswing in konconner/tim/teddy/billy crossover shenanigans in fandom lately. in fandom, conner/tim seems to be copying teddy/billy’s mold in terms of basic personality dynamics. which FTR is why if tim and conner ever get together in comics acting the way they have recently (again, in the TT book. tim is suave elsewhere? wat?) i would call MASSIVE SHENENIGANS on DC for trying to pander to fangurlz by attempting to copy marvel (and probably failing, because current tim and conner are about as deep as a puddle individually atm, while teddy and billy are quite complex. a lot more complex than some fans give them credit for, imo). also i just think that if tim does come out as gay, it’s WAAAAAAAAAAAY more likely that bart will be the conveniently bi one for him, not kon. but that is an entire other can of worms.

Ahh I do see how in fandom, Tim/Kon is somewhat modeled after Billy/Teddy what with the tender, doting hubby (Teddy and Conner) paired with the sensitive, gently smiling, nice-legs waifu (Billy and Tim) dynamic going on. Good point. :) I think Kon and Bart are also possibly gay given their characterization in the past, hahaha. Using a fannish mindset, I could totally see something like Kon secretly wanting to bottom for Tim due to his self-esteem issues that he overcompensates for by putting forward the an image of himself as being a totally in-control, model, modern hero when in fact he is usually humbled in his adventures and does most things to seek approval from others. Only a few of his arcs were about doing his own thing, which was great character growth considering how attention starved he was from the people he was desperately seeking approval from. So bottoming to Tim a few times could be fulfilling that need for approval from someone he sees as a threat or superior, as long as acknowledgment for himself that he doesn’t always have to be Top Dog like he thinks he has to be and he can enjoy being below someone somehow in a symbolic way if he can accept that being told to follow orders from others isn’t a personal attack on his competence.

well yes, “using a fandom mindset” that does all make sense XD (and OT3 aside i actually ship kon/bart way more than any other combo of two, so there’s that). but i just meant that if an actual DC writer ever grew had giant sand-dragging balls big enough to have tim turn out to be a closet case, they wouldn’t/shouldn’t pair him with kon. kon just seems to be such a ladies man (or thinks he is) that it would be OOC for him to suddenly be into dudes. fangirls can see it as deep denial or something, but i think the rest of the comics fandom would see it as a bullshit out-of-nowhere sexuality flop just to pander to said fangirls. but bart never struck me as someone who fell for anyone just because “omg boobs.” i think he just loves indiscriminately and has to have the other party point out that it could go farther, and it wouldn’t strike him odd if that other party was a boy rather than a girl. also i just think that by the 30th century people would be so over labeling sexuality, so his VR never fed him any biased opinions on it. so even though some writers lately gave him the stupid stereotypical “horndog speedster” lines now and then, i think the history of the character would make it a lot easier for writers to explain away a bi bart rather than a bi kon.

but of course this is all completely academic because of the reboot. *insert MAXIMUM POUT here*

THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW ITTT and yeah I dislike the horndog speedster thing what is that how is that appealing at all to people who have been following Bart since whenever ahhh!

When I first started out in this fandom, my favorite pairing was Kon/Bart and I basically ignored Tim forever. Then I started to like Tim more and now I think I like Tim/Bart more than my original OTP! Except the amount that I like them is already so HIIIGHHH that it doesn’t really matter who is in first place anyway, hahaha! I see your points though too. :3

First time drawing Red Robin Tim. Drew him for the “Draw the Doll Above You” thread, because a pal on the forum is also making a Tim doll. :) I’m interested in seeing how different our Tim dolls turn out— they’ll probably be from different eras anyway.
